After studying in Seville I fell in love with the culture and lifestyle, and I wanted a change from the cold weather and my office job
our story
We’re Kristen and Danielle, twins from Canada who always felt a pull toward something more. More creativity, more freedom, and more adventure. After graduating from the University of Calgary in 2016, we found ourselves stuck in uninspiring office jobs, daydreaming about a life that felt more aligned with who we really were. One thing was clear: we couldn’t stop thinking about Spain.
Back in university, we both studied abroad in Sevilla, and the experience sparked an idea. The dream? To live in Madrid, do creative work on our own terms, and build a life that felt expansive, intentional, and free.
So in 2017, with nothing figured out except our gut feeling, we packed up and moved to Madrid to teach English and see what might unfold. Fast forward nearly 8 years, we're now brand and web designers, small business owners, and proud residents of Spain.
But the path wasn’t easy. In 2021, we applied for self-employed visas to take our business full-time and were denied. Twice. Instead of giving up, we decided to fight for the life we knew we were meant to live. We took the Spanish government to court, and after a long two-year process, we won both cases and finally secured the right to work as self-employed in Spain.
This journey has taught us that the dreams planted in your heart are there for a reason. They're not random. They’re a calling. And if you're willing to stay the course, even when it's messy or uncertain, you will get there.
